"What you said in your chat apps shouldn't vanish into the scroll."
Your Social Memory, Fully Owned by You
Your chat history shouldn't be locked up by platforms, lost to broken devices, or buried by time.
ChatLab's mission: build a privacy-first, platform-agnostic infrastructure for chat memory — giving you absolute control over every word you've ever said.
What You Can Do Today
- Import chat history from WhatsApp, QQ, LINE, Discord, and more
- Talk to your chat history — query anything in natural language
- Visual insights: relationship analysis, activity patterns, time distribution, topic tracking, and more
- 100% offline — your data never leaves your device
What's coming next?
Deep Memory: Truly Understand Every Relationship
Every analysis adds another layer of understanding to your social world. A person you've known for years. A decade of one-on-one messages. A group you've been gaming with forever. Each relationship gets its own memory archive, quietly building over time.
Beyond answering "what did they say?", AI can go much deeper:
- People profiles — personality traits, recent updates, key life events — automatically built and continuously refined
- Relationship graph — who are you closest to? how many social circles do you move in? who's really running things in the group?
- Emotional timeline — how the warmth of a relationship shifts over time, visualized
- Cross-platform identity merging — the Alex on WeChat, @alex on Discord, and @alex on Twitter — they're the same person
Open Ecosystem
ChatLab isn't just a tool — it's open infrastructure. We're continuously expanding platform support while opening up the protocol, API, and connectivity layer so any tool or developer can build on top of ChatLab.
Open Protocol
Today's chat data is a collection of islands. Every app exports differently. Nothing talks to anything else.
ChatLab is working to establish an open protocol for chat data, covering multiple layers:
- Universal storage format — no matter which platform data comes from, it converts to a unified structure without losing anything
- Universal import spec — any tool, any platform, following this spec can import in one click
- Universal analysis format — relationship graphs, sentiment analysis, topic summaries — all analysis outputs follow a standard structure that any external tool can consume directly
The goal: make this protocol the common language of chat data — open, free, and interoperable — for any developer to build on.
Open API
Every core capability in ChatLab will be fully accessible through a standardized API — parsing, querying, analysis — all callable directly.
This means:
- Custom frontends — don't like the default UI? Build your own with any framework
- Embed into existing systems — bring ChatLab's analysis into your workspace, personal knowledge base, or AI workflow
- Build on top — developers can create specialized tools on ChatLab, going deep on specific use cases
Open Connectivity: The Social Memory Interface for AI Agents
As AI assistants take on a bigger role in your work and life, they need to actually know you — your relationships, what you've said, what you've decided.
ChatLab CLI + MCP is designed to be the standard interface for exactly that memory layer.
Whether it's ClaudeCode, OpenClaw, CodeX, or HermesAgent — any agent can call ChatLab and get structured, fully private, fully local memory data:
- "What's my relationship with this person?"
- "Have we talked about this before?"
- "Pull together all the important conversations I've had with Alex."
Your data stays on your device. Your agents finally understand you.
The End Goal
As AI agents become constant companions in work and life, they'll need to truly know you — your relationships, your words, your decisions. ChatLab's ultimate goal: become the standard interface for that social memory layer.
Underneath that is a technical foundation: become the infrastructure for chat data analysis — any platform's data comes in, any analysis need gets handled, any developer can build on it.
One day, your social memory will be the most accurate picture of who you are.
